  • Public Tours - 3rd Saturday & Sunday each month • 11 am • Noon • 1 pm • 2 pm. Admission: $3 per person, Missouri Botanical Garden Members and Children Age 12 & Under Free. Directions and MapGroup Tours by Appointment

    No reservations or purchase of tickets in advance are needed for public tour weekends. The EarthWays Home, an historic structure, is not wheelchair accessible. EarthWays Center is located in Grand Center, the arts and entertainment district of mid-town St. Louis, not on the main grounds of Missouri Botanical Garden.

Position Description: EarthWays Education Docents will primarily provide tours on site. Other opportunities may include supporting staff with public outreach efforts, school programs, and special events.

Note: The EarthWays building, an historic structure, is not wheelchair accessible. There are staircases from the basement to the third floor, as well as at all entrances to the building. No elevator is available.

Training: Docents must attend one day of training. Specialized topics will be presented throughout the year as needed. Prior environmental education background and topic awareness are not necessary to become an EarthWays volunteer.

Program Information: Currently, we are open to the general public for guided tours on the third Saturday and Sunday of every month. Tours are given on the hour at 11am, 12noon, 1pm, and 2pm. Tours last an hour. Docents are expected to be familiar with a general tour as well as tour modifications for different ages. Docent opportunities to assist staff with educational programs other than tours opportunities either in special events or through the efforts of EarthWays Center's two year long programs, SEED – School Energy Efficiency Development and LEAP – Leadership in Environmental Action Project, in which we work with students in energy education and recycling efforts.

Availability: 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. We have a special need for volunteers on weekdays, along with the weekends. Docent Meetings are held 9 times a year on Wednesday nights from 5:30–7:30pm.

Other Volunteer Positions: EarthWays is also happy to accept volunteers to assist with maintaining our gardens and grounds and assisting with clerical work.
