2007 Green Hero Awards
Meet four St. Louis individuals whose everyday efforts show others why it’s important to protect the environment. How can you include environmental stewardship in your activities? Let the examples of our Green Heroes inspire you!
What makes a person a Hero?
- Going above and beyond what he or she is required to do
- Taking initiative to make something that matters happen
- Saving something or someone that is threatened from harm
- Leading by example – and inspiring others to follow their lead
The Healthy Planet, Missouri Botanical Garden’s EarthWays Center and the St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District are proud to recognize four St. Louis area Green Heroes. These are individuals whose everyday choices and actions accomplish truly heroic things, on behalf of the environment.
Our local Green Heroes are a small business owner, a teacher, a staff person at the Saint Louis Zoo, and an elementary school student. They are regular people, folks you might not pick out (at first) in a crowd. They all go about their daily activities like anyone else does, keeping up their responsibilities, doing what’s expected of them: learning, supervising and guiding the work of others, keeping their lives in order. And the three adults all work to make ends meet financially. None of them seek the spotlight.
What makes them Green Heroes is that each of these individuals understands how health and prosperity for people is connected to the health, diversity, and balance of our natural resources. Each one cares deeply about the well-being of the world around them, including animals, plants, ecosystems, air, water, soil, open space and energy as well as fellow human beings.
And they all work to share with others what they care about. They are Green Heroes because they inspire many other adults and kids to join their efforts to protect the environment. Their actions demonstrate every day why the environment is important, and how anyone, of any age, really can become a Green Hero too.
Thanks, Green Heroes!
